DEPUTY DA’S CHOOSES ERIC SIDDALL FOR DISTRICT ATTORNEY

Association of Deputy District Attorneys Rebukes Incumbent D.A. George Gascón, Endorses Violent Crime Prosecutor, Former Vice President Eric Siddall in DA’s Race

LOS ANGELES, CA — The Association for Deputy District Attorneys (ADDA) announced they are backing violent crime prosecutor and Deputy District Attorney Eric Siddall in the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s race on Wednesday, calling Siddall “a leader who will put public safety ahead of politics.” In a forceful rebuke of incumbent District Attorney George Gascón, ADDA endorsed Siddall, who served as a board member and the  union’s Vice President for over a decade — including leading a successful legal battle on behalf of the prosecutors’ union to block Gascón’s illegal directives.

In a crowded field of challengers, ADDA notes they came to this conclusion after an “exhaustive, months-long, fact-based analysis” of the candidates — including polling, campaign finance and member recommendations — found that Siddall stood apart. Notably, the race to replace Gascón includes three other Deputy District Attorneys.

In announcing their endorsement, the ADDA released the following statement:

“Eric Siddall is not new to this political battle; he’s been waging it for years. We believe that he has the necessary political acumen, policy depth, and prosecutorial experience to take the fight directly to Gascón this November, to beat him in the general election, and, once elected, to move the District Attorney’s Office forward in a new, constructive, and modern direction. Our Board is proud to endorse his candidacy for District Attorney.”

In response to the ADDA’s endorsement, Siddall issued the following statement:

“Receiving this endorsement from my fellow members in the Association of Deputy District Attorneys is deeply meaningful to me. These dedicated prosecutors show true allegiance to justice and public safety and I am honored to have their support. This recognition of the strength and momentum behind our campaign furthers my resolve to keep fighting to improve public safety and tackle violent crime in Los Angeles County. Together, we will create a brighter future and safer environment for all.”

ADDA’s endorsement follows Siddall’s announcement just last month of a poll demonstrating his competitiveness in both the primary election as well as a hypothetical head-to-head matchup in November with the incumbent. According to the memo, “The survey finds that in a crowded field of unknown challengers, Prosecutor Eric Siddall stands out as a strong contender... Among the rest of the field, Eric Siddall is the only candidate who is able to increase his level of support beyond single digits after voters received statements of similar length that provided positive information about each candidate.”

The memo went on to read, “Eric Siddall is a strong general election candidate who would likely defeat George Gascón in a head-to-head matchup.” To read the poll memo, click here.
